When I first joined the Shadowmoor development team, I was somewhat surprised to learn that much of development is really just a different type of design, wherein many of the same skills get used. Adding one mana to a card’s cost may make it fair, but it’s not always the best tweak to make, nor is it an automatic decision. Sometimes subtly redesigning an ability is better; other times, balancing power, toughness, or other stats is correct. And then, of course, there are times when part or all of a card needs to be completely redesigned.
